Education That Grows With the World

At the Institute for Sustainable Education (ISE), we believe that learning should be as dynamic and resilient as the world around us. We're a U.S.-based education research center, and our mission is simple: help build learning systems that prepare people—for life, not just for tests.

We focus on sustainability because we know that today's learners will shape tomorrow’s world. And we believe education can (and should) empower them to do just that.

About us

We’re researchers, educators, and community builders who roll up our sleeves and ask big questions:

  • How can schools promote literacy without adding to teacher burnout?

  • What does inclusive education really look like in action?

  • How do we prepare students to solve complex, global problems?

We turn those questions into real-world projects, partnerships, and tools that make education more equitable, meaningful, and future-ready.

Our Story

ISE was founded by a team of educators and researchers who saw the disconnect between what students were learning and what the world needed. We started small—with a pilot curriculum in one school district—and grew into a national and international resource for sustainable education research, tools, and community-driven initiatives.

Today, we partner with schools, universities, nonprofits, and governments to push for change that starts in the classroom and ripples outward.
